Domestic Water Filter FAQs
Common questions about choosing domestic water filters, replacement cartridges and home filtration products.
How do I know which replacement cartridge fits my housing?
Check the cartridge length, diameter and housing type before ordering. Photos of the existing cartridge, filter housing label or system setup can help confirm whether a standard cartridge, Big Blue cartridge or another replacement type is required.
What is the difference between sediment and carbon filters?
Sediment filters are mainly used to reduce particles such as dirt, rust, sand and suspended solids. Carbon filters are commonly used for taste, odour, chlorine reduction and general water polishing. In many domestic systems, sediment filtration is installed before carbon filtration to help protect the carbon filter and improve overall performance.
Can these products be used for rainwater tank filtration?
Some domestic cartridges and filtration systems may be suitable for rainwater applications, depending on water quality, system layout and treatment purpose. Rainwater filtration often requires sediment control before finer filtration, carbon polishing or other treatment stages.
When should I replace domestic filter cartridges?
Replacement frequency depends on water quality, usage, cartridge type and system design. A drop in flow, visible sediment loading, taste or odour changes, or the manufacturer’s recommended service interval can indicate that replacement is needed.
Do I need a whole house system or an under-sink system?
Whole house systems treat water entering the property or a major water line, while under-sink systems usually treat water at a single drinking water point. The right option depends on whether the goal is general household filtration, drinking water improvement or protection of downstream equipment.
Can Crystwater help if I only have photos of my current filter?
Yes. Clear photos of the cartridge, housing, label, connection size and overall system can help identify possible replacement options. For some systems, additional measurements or model details may still be required.
